At The Opal Centre, we are committed to providing authentic Australian opal jewellery and gemstones with exceptional customer service, transparency and care. Every piece is carefully inspected prior to sale to ensure it meets our quality standards and showcases the natural beauty and individuality of genuine Australian opals.

Please read the following information regarding exchanges, returns, warranties and caring for your opal jewellery.

Exchanges & Change of Mind

The Opal Centre does not provide refunds for change of mind, unless an item has a major fault or is not fit for purpose under Australian Consumer Law.

If your purchase is not quite right, we are happy to offer either:

  • An exchange

  • A store credit to the value of the item purchased

Our exchange and store credit policy is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. After 30 days, we are unable to offer an exchange or store credit for change of mind.

To be eligible for an exchange or store credit, items must:

  • Be in pristine, unworn and unused condition

  • Be returned in the original jewellery packaging

  • Be accompanied by proof of purchase

All returned items are subject to inspection prior to approval of an exchange or store credit.

Non-Returnable Items

For hygiene and safety reasons, earrings cannot be exchanged or returned for change of mind.

The following items are also non-refundable and non-exchangeable for change of mind:

  • Custom-made or customised jewellery

  • Resized gold rings

  • Special order items

  • Sale items

This does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law where an item is deemed faulty or not as described.

Faulty Items & Warranty

If you believe your jewellery has a manufacturing fault, please contact The Opal Centre as soon as possible so the item can be assessed. Depending on the nature of the issue, we may offer a repair, replacement or refund in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.

Important Warranty Information

Australian opals are natural gemstones and require appropriate care. The Opal Centre is not liable for damage caused by:

  • General wear and tear

  • Accidental or intentional damage

  • Negligence or misuse

  • Cracking, chipping or breakage of opals

  • Bent claws, damaged settings or impact-related damage

All jewellery is carefully cleaned and inspected prior to display and sale to ensure there is no visible damage or manufacturing issue present.

Refunds approved under Australian Consumer Law will be processed using the original payment method.

Returning an Item

If you are local to the Coffs Harbour region, items may be returned directly to The Opal Centre in-store during business hours. For customers outside the area, returns may be sent to us via secure and trackable post. We strongly recommend insuring high-value jewellery items during transit for added protection.

Unless an item is deemed faulty, customers are responsible for return shipping costs, which are non-refundable.

Before returning an item, please contact us in-store or via email at info@theopalcentre.com with your proof of purchase and details of your request so we can assist you with the return process.

Please ensure your item is securely repackaged in its original jewellery box and packaging before shipping. We recommend using a secure and trackable postage method and retaining your tracking number until the return has been received by us.

Ring Resizing

The Opal Centre offers ring resizing services for selected jewellery pieces, subject to assessment and suitability of the design. As some opal rings and settings are more delicate than traditional gemstone jewellery, resizing is considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure the integrity and safety of the piece is maintained.

Resizing costs will vary depending on the style of the ring, the metal type, the complexity of the work required and the size adjustment needed. Please contact us or visit us in-store for an assessment and quotation.

Please note that resized rings, customised pieces and special order items are not eligible for exchange or return for change of mind.

Stone Replacement Assistance

While accidental damage, wear and tear, or stone loss are not covered under warranty, in the event an opal gemstone becomes damaged, cracked, chipped or lost, we may be able to arrange a replacement stone and repair service at the customer’s expense, subject to availability of a suitable matching opal.

As every Australian opal is naturally unique, an exact match may not always be possible, however we will make every effort to source a replacement that closely complements the original piece.

Complimentary Pendant Chains

All opal pendants are supplied with a complimentary gold plated or silver plated display chain. As these chains are provided free of charge and are not included in the purchase price of the pendant, The Opal Centre does not repair or replace complimentary chains if they become damaged. For long-term wear, we recommend purchasing or using a quality silver or gold chain that matches the metal type of your pendant.

Caring for Your Opal Jewellery

Australian opals are delicate natural gemstones and should be treated with care to preserve their beauty for years to come.

We recommend removing your opal jewellery before:

  • Bathing or swimming

  • Exercising

  • Cleaning

  • Cooking

  • Applying beauty products or household chemicals

To clean your opal jewellery, use warm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush or soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners and abrasive materials.
